A Culture of College and Career

At Greater Than, we understand the power of igniting curiosity and providing hands-on experiences that inspire our students to envision their futures. That's why each spring we take students on transformative field trips to different colleges. This year's college campus visits included Portland State University, Lewis & Clark, Mt. Hood Community College, and Linfield University. These visits aren't just about touring campuses; they're about helping our students to see themselves as college-bound scholars.

In addition to college exploration, we've hosted Career Days at Alder and Lincoln Street Elementary. These events play an important role in exposing our students to a diverse range of careers. Professionals from various industries interact with our students, providing fresh insights and experiences. From architects to plumbers, fire fighters to entrepreneurs, our students engage with diverse career opportunities, allowing them to dream big and explore their passions.

At Lincoln Street Elementary, our Career Day is enriched by the district's career pathways program. Students receive career kits, providing them with early exposure to diverse career paths. This initiative aligns with the Hillsboro School District's strategic plan of creating comprehensive career pathways for students from an early age.

Recently, middle school students from Evergreen, H.B. Lee, and Reynolds MS visited Vernier Science Education for an immersive workplace tour. They were exposed to the world of science education, experiencing firsthand the diverse roles within the company and even testing out Vernier products. These experiences not only expose students to career possibilities but also instill a sense of confidence and aspiration.

Our college and career events aren't just one-time experiences; they're building blocks for the future. By fostering a college-going mindset and exposing students to diverse career pathways, we're creating a culture where every student can envision for themselves whatever future they want.
