The Power of Persistence

As we celebrate our high school graduates this season, we're reminded of the remarkable journey we've shared with these students since their earliest days at Alder Elementary. The Power of Persistence has been our guiding force, propelling us on our commitment to fostering a racially just future for learning.
At Greater Than, our commitment to students extends beyond immediate needs; it's about investing in their long-term success. Our approach is guided by flexibility and adaptability, ensuring that we meet the diverse and evolving needs of our students. Here are some ways we’re making a difference:
Through Math Stars, we offer individualized, high-dosage tutoring to help students who are below grade level catch up and stay on track academically.
We prioritize individualized advocacy, offering long-term and personalized mentoring to ensure students have the support they need from kindergarten through high school and beyond.
We recognize the importance of community involvement in a student's journey. That's why we're dedicated to strengthening the connections between parents, students, and the school district. Our parent community groups offer culturally affirming support, fostering a sense of belonging and engagement within our communities.
From kindergarten to graduation day, Greater Than is there, providing unwavering support. As students transition into post-secondary education, programs like GT Persist and GT Achieve stand ready, offering advising, ongoing mentorship, and assistance in accessing valuable resources. Whether it's understanding the complexities of FAFSA and ORSAA or staying informed about changes in federal policies, we ensure that students are equipped with the knowledge and support necessary for their journey ahead.
We've seen the transformative impact of our persistence model through inspiring stories like Brooke Brown's. Brooke's journey from Alder Elementary to Linfield University showcases the unwavering support and advocacy that defines Greater Than's approach. With mentorship from Renee Irikawa, Brooke navigated the challenges of being a first-generation college student and emerged with the confidence to pursue her dreams.

Similarly, students like Nadia Abi and Rubi Hernandez have found a supportive community at Greater Than that extends from elementary school through college. With mentors like Laura Miranda by their side, they've overcome obstacles and pursued opportunities they never thought possible.
As we celebrate the achievements of students like Brooke, Nadia, and Rubi, we’re reminded of the Power of Persistence. Together, let’s continue to champion the potential of every student, where every student’s journey is supported, celebrated, and encouraged.
Please consider a gift today to help us reach our goal of raising $25,000 by the end of summer to support our ongoing efforts to cultivate student potential and bolster the strengths of the communities we serve. With your help, we can make a lasting impact that extends far beyond the walls of our classrooms.
Together, with the Power of Persistence, we are Greater Than the sum of our parts.
