Summer Math Program

We are excited to continue our summer math intervention program, modeled as a "lite" version of our successful Math Stars program. This initiative aims to help students maintain and improve their math skills during the summer break. Incorporating games and interactive activities, the program runs weekday mornings, making math engaging and enjoyable for all participants.

Bookmobile

Greater Than Bookmobile is one key way we connect with students, families, and the community during the school break. Bookmobile helps to support literacy and provide essential supplies to help students continue to grow and thrive. This weekly summer event visits apartment complexes and other centers of the community where many students and families work and live.

Our volunteer readers gather outdoors with any and all interested students and read several books aloud to students of all ages. Bookmobile events often include instruments and live performances, adding to the fun and interactive experience.

All students go home with:

• Culturally affirming, dual-language books
• Fresh produce and other pantry staples
• Information on how to access supportive services from community partners
• School supplies and back to school information

Kindergarten Readiness Kits

To help our youngest learners get ready for their educational journey, Greater Than will provide Kindergarten Readiness Kits to incoming kindergartners at Alder Elementary. These kits include work mats, letters and numbers activities, school calendars, information about good attendance, playdough to develop motor skills, culturally affirming books, and hand sanitizer. We are committed to setting our kindergartners up for success from day one.

Transition Meetings for Incoming 6th Graders

Transitioning to middle school can be a big step for students and their families. To ease this transition, Greater Than will host meetings for parents of incoming 6th graders at H.B. Lee Middle School and Reynolds Middle School. These sessions will take place in July and August, respectively. During the meetings, families will meet our Middle School Student Success Specialists and receive valuable information about understanding transcripts, grades, and the importance of attendance. It's a great way to start building relationships and ensure a smooth transition to middle school.

Freedom School Summer Program at H.B. Lee Middle School.

Freedom School at H.B. Lee Middle School

Greater Than is proud to support the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom Schools program at H.B. Lee. This free, six-week summer program for students in grades K–12 enhances reading motivation and fosters a love for learning. Freedom School offers literacy instruction, fun activities like cooking, sports, art, music, and field trips. Students also learn about Black/African American history and the civil rights movement. Our staff will assist throughout the program to support students.

Together, we can ensure that our students remain engaged, motivated, and prepared for the next academic year. Please consider making a donation to help us provide these crucial summer programs.
